Fantasy Herbalist Institute: Unreal Engine Environment
This was a project for my graduate program where I created an environment in Unreal Engine 5. I was inspired by the idea of Romanesque and Gothic cathedrals, how the architecture and stained glass windows are designed to illuminate an otherwise cold and gray building with vibrant colors.
Taking that idea I repurposed the building to be a greenhouse and herbalist institute in a fantasy setting. The institute would be a place of safe refuge for the sick and wounded to seek aid, as well a location for practicing witches, druids, herbalists, or alchemists to study and practice their craft surrounded by the required plants and study materials. Given the enormous size of the space and amount of plants, I wanted to add planters fed by an aqueduct system with water in constant flow. As a center piece, there is a vibrant mystical tree that imbues the water at its roots with fertile qualities, so there is a large moon pool of water at it’s base that is the source of all the water in the room.
About Me
I am deeply fascinated by art, programming and everything in between. As an aspiring technical artist, I seek to apply my skills in the fields that live between my two passions.
I received a Bachelor’s in Computer Science at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. I am currently pursuing an M.F.A in Visual Effects at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design)
